What is a bank routing number?

The routing transit number is the nine-digit number on the lower left of your check. It is designated for your bank only. You may also call your bank to get your RTN.

Please be sure that your bank processes direct deposits. There may be rare instances where your routing transit number is valid, but is not yet on the Financial Management Organization Master File. In this case, you would not be able to use direct deposit for that account.

Verify that the entry is correct before submitting your return.  If the banking information is incorrect for the direct deposit and the IRS/state accepts the return, your refund will be delayed.  The IRS/state, if unable to direct deposit, will issue a paper check to the address on the return.  Your return cannot be "amended" to correct the incorrect banking information.
