What is a Qualifying widow error?

If your error indicates that you have entered a filing status of Qualifying Widow(er) With Dependent Child but have failed to enter a dependent. You will need to either enter a dependent or change your filing status.

How to correct this error: 

From our homepage, click on "sign in" to enter your username and password to access your account.  Choose the current year return that is rejected.  Click on the "My Info" tab to review your filing status.  If correct, Qualifying Widow(er) With Dependent Child, save and continue and select to add a dependent to your return.

To add a dependent, select the Dependent link where you will enter a qualifying dependent.

If you have included a dependent, revisit the entries, verify that the selection is made for "qualifying child" in the screen.

Once you have made your correction you will then save and continue to the end of your return and resubmit.

*We strongly recommend checking the status of your return in 24-48 hours using the Login to My Income Tax Return link to verify that your return has been accepted.
